‘Back to work’ specialist Women Like Us to help hundreds of mums and dads

From next Monday, 18 May 2009, hundreds of Lambeth mums and dads are eligible for brand new ‘back-to work’ support from award-winning social enterprise Women Like Us.

Parents from the borough just need to email parentsatwork@womenlikeus.org.uk, text ‘parentsatwork’ to 07781 481 710 or call 020 7651 3765 to find out if they are entitled to free career coaching, guidance and support.

Women Like Us has just been awarded a brand new contract to pilot the national AACS scheme (the Adult Advancement and Careers Service) on a local level in three south London boroughs – Lambeth, Southwark and Wandsworth. This pilot is designed to help parents to either find new work or progress in their current careers, with the aim of transforming their lives.

Women Like Us was originally set up to help women with children to find flexible work that fits around family life, off the back of the experiences of working mums Karen Mattison and Emma Stewart. The organisation has won numerous prizes for its work – most recently the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category, which is made each year by Her Majesty on the advice of the Prime Minister. Whilst Women Like Us has been helping mothers in Lambeth since 2005, this is the first time Women Like Us has opened its doors to dads.
